The perfect hotel experience is something that a lot of people search for. I’ve read books about it, seen documentaries and, above all, heard a lot of stories of people who became so obsessed with finding the hotel room that spells perfect for them that the country or town where they go to becomes secondary to the luxury hotels they can stay at there.

Personally, I’m not particularly picky. I do go abroad for the experience of being in a different country; the hotel is secondary for me. In fact, the best hotels in my experience have been the least memorable; the ones that blend in and just not interfere with the whole holiday experience.

But I must admit that there are times when a hotel does come to the rescue. Like when you’re totally clueless about where to go one afternoon or evening and the concierge gives you advice that’s spot on to what you need or feel like doing. There was also this one time that I went to a tropical island for a business retreat and, like in many tropical islands, it rained regularly and always when the meetings or activities for the day were over. I was really glad for that hotel’s indoor pool that time.
