A lot of people have a little reluctance in going on holidays to Africa. Also, a lot of people would hardly considering that spending Tenerife holidays is going to Africa. But the Canary Islands are in the coast of Africa and, therefore, have definite African flair to them. Of course you could argue that they are owned by Spain, but just because South Africa was once ruled by England it didn’t make it any less African at the time.

It’s sad to say, but the African continent seems to still lack in stability. While some countries have finally and happily found their way to peace and to prosperity, many of them are still locked in a cycle of violence and poverty. This doesn’t mean that they should be ignored, mind you, but it does make it hard to go on holiday to these countries, for example, with your family and feel totally relaxed. Which is sad, because everyone should experience Africa. It’s probably the most magical of all continents; the one where you can practically breathe in the primal connection it has with Nature.

But if you can’t feel safe in the continent, why not try some of the islands? In the Atlantic coast there is, for example, the two islands comprising Sao Tome and Principe, which is an adorable place to visit. Deep in the Equator line, it hosts amazing tropical weather and it’s home to a huge variety of species of plants and animals. But it doesn’t stop there. Cape Verde is probably one of the single most amazing holiday places you can ever go to. The islands look poor and shaggy at a first glance, but they open up in absolute wonderment once you get to know them a little bit. The people there are simply amazing, some of the most innocent, friendly, warm and welcoming people in the World. Just don’t stick around the capital too much, it’s where all the tourist traps are. Take a small plane or a boat to a neighboring island and you’ll be swimming in amazement really soon.

But perhaps the most accessible of African islands are the Canary Islands. They have the best set of tourist facilities in the West Coast of the continent, or so they say, and they play host to several thousand tourists every year.
